Charlotte Laws


Charlotte Laws at Political Event in May 2005


Charlotte Laws recently completed her third term on the Greater Valley Glen Council, representing the stakeholders of Valley Glen, California. She chaired the Government Relations Committee and sat on the Public Safety Committee. In 2006 - 2007, Charlotte was a Los Angeles Commissioner. She was appointed to the position by Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. Charlotte was appointed by the GVGC to serve as the Director of Animal Welfare for Greater Valley Glen and to be the area representative for the LANC Congress. She currently serves as the South Valley District Representative for LANCC.

Charlotte has had extensive experience in community outreach, working in both the private and nonprofit sectors.  She has been a Realtor © since 1987 and is currently a top agent with Prudential. She is listed among the top 1% of Realtors © nationwide. She is the recipient of the Prudential President's Club Award, Real Estate's Leading Edge Award, and the 2008 "nominate a Realtor" community service award. Charlotte's  interaction with the community as a real estate agent has kept her in touch with local needs. Her community involvement is extensive, ranging from regular donations out of every closed escrow to the Aaroe Associates Charitable Foundation to personal contributions and volunteer work for numerous not-for-profit groups. She is the founder and president of the League for Earth & Animal Protection (LEAP) - www.LEAPnonprofit.org .

Protecting nonhumans and the environment is a top priority for her. She is currently involved with two not-for-profit projects: the implementation of public "no-kill animal shelters" in California cities and a vegetarian  program for local restaurants, intended to support vegetarian options and bring customers / business to the local community. 

She is a member of the Advisory Board for Center on Animal Liberation Affairs (CALA) and serves on the No-Kill Council, chairing the Community Partnerships Committee. She is the founder and president of the Los Angeles Directors of Animal Welfare (DAWs) program and is working to create a California Animal Commission through Governor Schwarzenegger's office. She is the recipient of the 2006 Los Angeles Animal Humanitarian Award. 


Charlotte attained a Ph.D. in Social Ethics from the University of Southern California (USC) and holds two Master's Degrees: in Professional Writing (USC) and in Social Ethics (USC). She also has two Bachelor Degrees: in Philosophy from California State University, Northridge (CSUN) and in Theatre Arts (CSUN). Charlotte has completed doctoral level coursework at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and post-doctoral coursework at Oxford University in England. She has supplemented her education with classes in community development, conflict resolution, computers, real estate, et al. from various universities and community colleges.

Charlotte is the author of a 1988 motivational self-help book (Ross Books, Berkeley) and of a new publication to be released soon titled Armed for Ideological Warfare. Charlotte authors a section of the April 2006 book, Igniting a Revolution, Voices In Defense of Mother Earth, (edited by Dr. Steven Best and Anthony J. Nocella, II). She is the author of numerous articles, published in the L.A. Times, Newsweek, Special Report, Publisher's Weekly, The Globe, Counterpunch, L.A. Voice Magazine, Opinion Editorials, The Simon, Broker Agent News, The Santa Monica Daily Press, The Oakland Tribune, The Tolucan Times, L.A. and Bay Area Newswires, The Daily News, The Burbank Leader, E The Environmental Magazine, Human Beams, et al.  


Since 2007, Charlotte has hosted her own television show "Uncommon Sense." She is also a regular commentator for the NBC show "The Filter with Fred Roggin" and is a co-host for the show "Everywaywoman."  

Charlotte was a syndicated columnist for a British magazine from 1999-200l; her articles explored a variety of topics from philosophy to politics, law,  real estate and social issues. She currently has a syndicated column, in which she investigates political, cultural and philosophical issues. Charlotte also started two blogs in Summer 2005: Charlotte's Web Blog and The Charlotte Laws Blog.

She has been interviewed on the following television shows: Larry King Live, The Late Show, Good Day L.A., NBC News, Fox News, CBS News, ABC News, The Journal, Oprah Winfrey, AM Los Angeles, Attitudes, People Are Talking, in addition to numerous radio / local TV programs. People magazine interviewed her for one of their issues. She regularly speaks at events on the following topics: politics, philosophy, social issues, financial investments, and personal issues. Charlotte is listed in Who's Who in California and Notable American Women. In January 2005, she received the CTM Award and in August 2008, the California Legislature presented her with a special Certificate of Recognition for her outstanding work. Charlotte is a member of the National Association of Realtors ®,  the California Association of Realtors ®, the Southland Regional Association of Realtors ®, CLAW & other local Multiple Listing Services. She is a member of various nonprofit organizations, contributing primarily to causes associated with the arts, animal rights/welfare, environmentalism, and education. Throughout her career, she has developed a record of accomplishments and experiences that will continue serve her community well.
