Atwater Village DAW report for April 2006
Our second pet adoption event was another success. 4 dogs were placed into good homes and several other applications accepted. The Farmer’s market loves us as when we are there, overall sales soar. Glassell Park DAW Diana Lannes and Arroyo Seco DAW Lezle Stein joined us and were a wonderful help.
A stray dog was turned over to us by a stakeholder. After a weekend at the vets where he was fixed, de-fleaed, bathed and an eye infection treated, he was fostered until a good home was located. He is one happy dog now!
Another stray dog was found. His owner was located and they were reunited.
We represented the DAWs at a health fair / spaymobile event held in North Atwater.
A nest of baby parrots fell down in a stakeholders yard. We helped by finding a rescue worker who took them. The hope was to return them to the tree, however there were too many hawks nearby and we felt their chances were better at the rescue.
We fielded many calls regarding lost pets. We gave out detailed instructions to owners on how to look for their lost pets.
We helped a stakeholder with a Pit Bull they no longer wanted.
A litter of infant kittens requiring bottle feeding is being fostered until ready for adoption.
We are helping a resident place a family pet into a new home due to baby issues.
A new rescue was taken to the vet for extensive gallstone and dental surgery.
A stakeholder alerted us to an injured opossum. We took the opossum to the vet for assessment. The vet determined the opossum was too injured to treat and he was euthanized.
Many letters were written and phone calls made for many different animal-related issues.
Tasks ahead of us are addressing the problem of “loose pets” in Atwater Village. Also, there is a feral cat colony that needs to be relocated and several wild bunnies that need to be caught, fostered and placed in good homes.
That’s it for now!
