DIANA LANNES GLASSELL PARK MAY DAW REPORT

Hi all,

The main thing I have been doing this month is working
on my budget proposal to present to my neighborhod
council to assist me in my DAW work. I need to re-do
and re-present it this June 4th. ( yes, I go to the
meetings)

I am reseaching how my 'booth' will best reach out to
Glassell Park, where we have a lot of "ignorance"
about animals..I really want education to be the
primary focus. I have some bi-lingual friends on board
as well.

I discovered 2 rottweilers ( very friendly of course)
kept as guard dogs near my house. I realized that they
are tied up with chains all day while the business is
open, lying on hot concrete. I talked to the manager
of the tire shop and told him all the things he needed
to change. I alerted the Task force to check up on
them. I will also check up to make sure they comply.

I am fostering 'Petie', he is doing really well with
Brownie and Twinkie. If he keeps behaving we may keep
him?! We have to at least find out if he wins the 'old
navy' contest!

Here is a pic of all 3 together.

I think that's it...

Best,
diana

Hello DAWlings,

I know we are all inundated with emails but think of it this way: this is not an animal you have to save, not a letter you have to write to congress, not a desperate plea for funds – nothing sad, expensive, difficult or inconvenient.

All this email is asking you to do is send in a quick report on what you’ve been up to. To make it event easier, just hit “reply” and answer the TWO questions below. If you have already sent in your DAW report, THANK YOU and kindly ignore this. If you haven’t yet, take three minutes and reply to this. George and I will be very, very grateful.

1. Please list anything you did during the month of April on behalf of the animals. This can include rescuing a stray, fostering a pet, signing a petition, writing those pesky letters to congress, volunteering, interceding on behalf on an animal, attending a meeting or an event,  providing advice and information to stakeholders, getting funding from your Neighborhood Council, etc., etc.

2. I attended my Neighborhood Council meeting:
Yes______      No______

That’s it, you’re done!

Thanks so much, Bea

GEORGE SHEA DAW REPORT STUDIO CITY  MAY 06

George Shea DAWS Report May 06

I sollicited & collected DAWS reports together with Bea Abelleira & Bea
Shapiro.

I attended the April 17 meeting of the SC NC -- I presented omn behalf of
Charlotte Laws' nomination to the 912 Commission.

I also presented on an agenda item that was developed with Robin Seidell, DAW for the SCRA.  Robin reported a serious shortage of trash receptacles on the
south side of Ventura Blvd between Radford and Tujunga. I surveyed the
area myself & determined that there are only two receptacles on the S. side
of Ventura between Radford & Vineland. This imposes a difficulty on SC residents,
like Robin, who live in the lower hills & walk their dogs on the Avenue.

I presented the problem to the SCNC and was advised by the President
and also by the Secretary b(Alan Levy) to post a notice of a public meeting on the subject, attempt to pass a motion and present the result to the SCNC.
Levy said that, presuming on passage by the SCNC, funds could be provided for the purchase of additional receptacles.

Robin also suggested that "doggie" bags might be set out by local merchants.
I mentioned this as a possibility during my presentation and will suggest the
possibility at the next SCRA meeting in June.

I also fielded a complaint from Marilyn White Sedel, a SC resident who was
referred to me by the SCNC. It concerned dog feces in the long narrow alley that runs
behind CBS between Radford and Colfax. I surveyed the alley and found some feces,
most of it in the vicinity of the Chow Bella Day Spa. I intend to pursue this
matter further when I return from a vacation in the east on June 13.

Also, I have been continuing my activities re glue traps in association with PETA
as well as continuing my investigation as SC DAW on the Chow Bella Pet Spa.
Philip Orocco who was in Brazil, has returned to Studio City. I interviewed him on
May 27 regarding the sale of a sick dog to him by Chow Bella. The animal
subsequently died.

I also assisted Mark Gonzaga who is running in the Democratic 42nd Assembly district primary. Rich Mc Clellan asked me if I could be of assistance to Gonzaga whom he described as a "pure Animal Rights candidate."  I counselled Gonzaga and sent a small check to his campaign. I voted for David Hernandez in the primary despite David's failure to submit a single DAWS Report.

I also lobbied Jack Scott and four other State Senators on behalf of the Anti-
Tethering Bill.

Hello, Fellow DAWS:

It's that time again, when we invite you to wax poetic over your various projects. Please let us know what you've been up to in May.  Again, it doesn't have to be a long drawn out explanation. As a matter of fact, to make it easier and more uniform, this month, we're submitting a Brief Questionnaire.

Just
fill it out and return. We want to hear about your successes as well as your difficulties.  This shouldn't take anyone more than 15 minutes. Probably less. You can email these reports back to me.
Here goes:

1. Your Name: Missy Woodward

2. I am the DAW for: Reseda

3. During the month of May, 2006, I did the following: Placed news in the Reseda News about DAWs and my info.  Received calls from various people expecting me to do everything with little assistance – examples – put in barking dog requests but not willing to do so themselves; catch feral cats and say ‘we don’t want them back here’, act as tho they are concerned for an injured animal and willing to put food out, but won’t help on medical, etc.  Very disappointing to see such lack of cooperation – more like they have the impression I am here to do the work of the City.  They said they could not get thru to any of the City Shelter lines to speak to a human.  Put word out about DAWs volunteering for LAAS at the Best Friends event. Interviewed Ed Boks on my Critter Crusades TV show.

4. Did I attend a Neighborhood Council Meeting or City Council Meeting? Any comments on this: Yes, with Charlotte Laws.  Reported on the Best Friends event asking for volunteers and other topics.  I am given 2 minutes to speak.

5. Is there a special project I'm working on? Did the Best Friends event.   Just did show with Kris Kelly and junior DAW Jade and discussed DAW program to air soon on public access and my site.

6. Is there anything I would like to see the DAWS do?  Is there anything I would like to see the DAWS do differently? Two times a year do a Mobile Pet Adoption with LAAS as a joint venture.

7. What do I like most about the DAWS? The idea behind the whole project.

8. What do I like least about the DAWS?   DAWs in name only – no real involvement other than name on website.

Thank You!  Our next general meeting is on Friday, June 23, 2006 at 7:00 pm at Marvin Braude Constituent Service Center, Room 1-B, 6262 Van Nuys Blvd., Van Nuys, CA 91401. Assemblyman Lloyd Levine will be the main speaker. Please think about any questions you may have regarding past, present and future animal legislation.

Hope you are participating in the Best Friends Animal Adoption event this Sunday. It is not too late to help - just let Missy Woodward know at mwoodward@pacbell.net <mailto:mwoodward@pacbell.net>

Hope to see you there. Keep up the good work!

Kris Kelly   DAW of Pacific Palisades and Beverly Hills....

I am a member of the Community Council (advisor of animal welfare). I have attended all of my meetings. Have had my two assistants foster kittens.

I taped a show with Missy Woodward talking about the shelter animals and education for children. Jade Brenner Katz was in the interview also. She is my assistant (Youth Division).

I started my own rescue this month www.TheKrisKellyFoundation.org
<http://www.TheKrisKellyFoundation.org>   please check www.TheKrisKellyFoundation.com <http://www.TheKrisKellyFoundation.com>  for the time being.

We are having our first fundraiser on June 17th in an estate in Agoura Hills.

I am working with Judys Pet Depot in Westwood and have scheduled other rescues to come and do adoptions there. I have one rescue dog there right now.

I became a member of the New Hope Foundation. I rescued my first cat there through the program last week.

I became a member of the 11th District Congress with Bill Rosendahl. I will be working with the Seniors and Homeless. They do not have a division for the animals but that is why I am in the Congress so that eventually they will consider the animals of importance and start an animal welfare committee.

I have done a couple of homes checks for individuals that have contacted me.

I know I am probably missing something......

1. Your Name:Marlene Goodman

2. I am the DAW for: Sherman Oaks

3. During the month of May, 2006, we did the following:
a - distribted information packages to the community.
b - had a planning meeting to discuss our direction.
c - spoke before the LA Zoo commission  to  release Ruby and Gita. Discussed with Director John Lewis to develop and educational program at the zoo regarding urban wildlife.
d - researched educational programs for children.

4. Did I attend a Neighborhood Council Meeting or City Council Meeting? Any comments on this: Attended and spoke at both. City Council never listens.

5. Is there a special project I'm working on? Resource guide with Hollie. Educational ideas for community.

6. Is there anything I would like to see the DAWS do?  Is there anything I would like to see the DAWS do differently?

8. What do I like least about the DAWS? No special focus. I would like it to be more tightly organized.

Hi:

Checked over the April daw reports and ours from Sherman Oaks was not among them.

Please add the following to our May report.

Assisted three stakeholders who want to place their dogs. Gave them guidance in where to go.

Wrote letters on legislative bills both state wide and federal.
