DAW LETTER TO LA CITY COUNCIL AND MAYOR
Sent on January 7, 2008
The
Los Angeles Directors of Animal Welfare (DAW)
21781 Ventura Blvd., # 633
Woodland Hills, CA 91364
A vote was taken on the following issues at the last Directors of Animal Welfare (DAW) meeting. Those who signed below ask you to support the following:
1.
When a pest control company
plans to use toxic materials on a property, the pest control company shall
notify adjacent residents 48 hours prior to the use of such substances.
A stakeholder who works in the LA City Attorney’s office recently explained to the Directors of Animal Welfare (DAWs) how her cat died inside her next-door neighbor’s termite company tent. If she had known about the tenting, she would have made sure her cat stayed indoors that day. Toxic pest control substances can also be dangerous for children. Basic disclosure should be required. It would be easy for pest control companies to comply.
2. Please encourage the legislators in Sacramento to add “animal cruelty” to the list of predicate acts for gang members. Lesser offenses (i.e. theft & drug crimes) are on the list.
3.
Please make the LA
Animal Cruelty Task Force (ACTF) permanent and add at least one team per year to
the Task Force.
A team consists of an animal services officer and a police officer. A large
percentage of animal cruelty (i.e. dog fighting) stems from gang activity.
Increasing the size of the task force will both help animals and rid Los Angeles
of gangs.
Thank
you,
(List
