Letters to the Governor, the Mayor and the L.A. City Council
August 1, 2005
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger
Office of the Governor
State of California
Sacramento, CA 95814
Dear Governor Schwarzenegger,
At the last general meeting, the Greater Valley Glen Council voted to support the idea of establishing a California Animal Commission.
We, as members of the Council, ask that you appoint an advisory state commission with the purpose of writing proposals and advising localities on how to achieve the "no kill" goal at their public animal shelters. We believe this will benefit both animals and taxpayers.
Please keep us informed as to your decision on this very important matter. Thank you.
Sincerely,
The Greater Valley Glen Council

Honorable Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa

Los Angeles, CA 90012
Dear Mayor Villaraigosa,
We, the members of the Greater
Valley Glen Council, support the idea of establishing a California Animal
Commission and ask that you encourage Governor Schwarzenegger to appoint such a
commission.
The unpaid Commission, which
would be comprised of individuals committed to animal welfare, would act in an
advisory capacity to help cities and counties achieve the "no kill"
goal at their public animal shelters.
We believe this commission is
an important first step towards ending the needless killing of animals in public
shelters throughout the state. As the no-kill goal is achieved, fewer animals
will end up at public shelters, thereby reducing taxpayer costs.
California would be the first
state to have a commission of this sort, making it a nationwide leader in animal
welfare.
I hope we can count on your
support on this very important matter. Thank you.
Sincerely,
The Greater Valley Glen Council
