Chow Bella presentation by George Shea. Meeting with Boks about the issue is scheduled for Sept. 20, 2007. There will be a hearing about Chow Bella’s revocation at the end of October 2007.

 

Motion to send a letter to Ed Boks about investigating Chow Bella. Passes unanimously.

 

Other problematic doggy daycares mentioned as well as problems at parks with respect to failure to separate large dogs from small ones. Incidents occur.

 

Discussion about a cockfighting sting operation by the DAWs.

 

Marie Atake resignation discussed.

Marsha Perloff congratulated for being appointed by the Sunland Tujunga Neighborhood Council to be their DAW.

 

Discussion about reviewing LAAS numbers. Suggestion that Brad Jensen and Ed Muzika make a presentation to the newly formed “LAAS Statistics Committee.” Cliff Jacobs will chair the committee and George Shea will help. DAWs and others signed up to join the committee.

 

Emergency preparedness discussed. Lori of the Pet Press was present as well as reporter Denise Fleck to give great insight and suggestions. The vice chair of the Lake Balboa NC was also present to tell about her involvement with CERT and Emergency Preparedness in general. She is making provisions for pets. The WVNLB NC is spending $50,000 on emergency preparedness. Discussion about the website with info www.evacuate mypet.com – Many hotels have agreed to take people and their animals in an emergency, but they refuse to have their names released until the moment of emergency. The Red Cross is supposed to have the list. According to the new state law, pets must now be accommodated in some way. The Red Cross must comply with the new law.

 

The Lake Balboa NC will get us their list of emergency preparedness items.

There is a Store called “Store SOS” on Strathern between Woodley and Haskel. It has emergency supplies. You can get a 10% discount if you are from a worthy group.

 

Discussion about the Animal Cruelty Task Force and motion from the previous meeting about making it permanent and adding one team per year. Passes unanimously. Debbie Knaan may be a coordinator through the City Attorney’s office on animal cases – we will contact her about how the Task Force can be improved. There was discussion about having a Citizen Commission for overview or assigning a rescue person to each team.

 

Discussion about the Pit Bull Academy. The City Council meeting on this issue can be seen via the LA City Council website.

 

Discussion about motion from previous meeting about pest control companies and a requirement that they notify adjacent residents of toxic materials. Passes unanimously.

 

Discussion about volunteer Sherry Brewer and her desire to be reinstated at East Valley. Discussion about defects at East Valley – cards get wet from sprinklers. Dogs are not kept cool and don’t have shade. Dogs stay wet all day from sprinklers. Agreement that the facility is inferior to the old facility. Discussion about how ridiculous it is that the lobby is so large. Suggestion that animals be placed on display in the lobby for adoption. Showcases, like a pet store.

 

Motion and discussion about adding animal cruelty to the list of predicate acts for criminal street gangs. Passes unanimously.
