A closer look at the OAS stats. And comments

What jumps out – a category under released cats “picked up dead or dead in cage” – assumes that means the number of cats that died under their care due to illness. The stats show a big problem with illness in this shelter which goes along with the problems with obtaining disposable gloves, etc. – not just these cats but 387 PTS for medical reasons, and 25 + dying in foster care.

“picked up dead’ on the road is 620 cats – very high.

Megan is using the term “adopted” for those going out to rescue as well as those adopted which skews the numbers.  They actually adopted out 382 dogs and 385 cats – more than I would have thought. 1/8 dogs and 1/6 cats. 1/8 dogs went to rescue, 1/8 redeemed and the other 5 dogs were killed.

1/6 cats adopted from the shelter, 2-3/6 went to rescue, a few redeemed, and 2-3/6 killed.

Owners surrendering animals are asked to pay a fee which is why the numbers of stray – owner unknown are so high – those are probably 10x what they would be if no fee was involved.

What is the category – adopted, no money?  I would guess another rescue group, not adopted to the public – number is too high.

Re her comment  “all kittens with eyes open and not severely ill” were fostered.- I don’t think she is including feral kittens plus she claims 500 kittens went to foster,  but I have been told that over 100 of these are now unaccounted for, unfixed in the community (“lost to follow-up”) – I would say losing 1/5 of your population is not a success.
