CHARLOTTE LAWS - DREAM AND ACHIEVE TOGETHER |

|
May 31, 2005 Dear L.A. City Councilmember, The Greater Valley Glen Council requests that the L.A. City Council direct the Department of Water and Power to work with the Los Angeles Unified School District to draft a new agreement. This agreement will require both parties to work together to ensure that new LAUSD construction projects incorporate investments in renewable resource technologies, such as solar energy. LAUSD operates under a long-term contract with DWP for a 5% reduction in cost for services. This contract--which is in force until 2007--disallows solar panels and other renewable energy options. This is detrimental to our city and its people. Our Council further believes that Los Angeles should, whenever possible, use cost-effective and renewable "green" resources for all new city of L.A. construction projects. Aggressive incentives should also be put into place for developers and other private citizens, so as to encourage sustainability. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us. Thank you. Sincerely, Charlotte
